FM retransmission receive

Inovonics' AARON 640 is a premium FM retransmitter/translator receiver developed to meet the most demanding reception scenarios. Boasting superior off-air performance even for the most elite professional and consumer receivers, AARON 640 offers many of the features of its older brother AARON 650, but at an affordable price.

The AARON 640's highly sensitive and selective front end digitally decodes the entire analog base band. The outputs are low latency MPX, Balanced Analog and AES-Digital for retransmission.

The rear panel provides a 50 Ohm (N) antenna connector, a true composite output (off air), Balanced Analog and AES-Digital audio and remote IP access. The rear panel and self-locking alarms constantly check for Audio Loss, RF Loss and RDS Loss (or 'hijacking'). Online notifications can alert staff with email or instant text messages when any of the alarms occur. The front panel displays left and right audio measurement, local LED alarms and an LCD screen with jog wheel for advanced control and modification of all tuning and monitoring parameters.

The AARON 640's "responsive" web interface allows complete configuration, listening, recording and control of the unit from PC, tablet or smartphone, and reliable 2-way connectivity is provided by a built-in Dynamic DNS utility. Advanced off-air measuring instruments include an FM and FFT BandScanner from the MPX region. The reception bandwidth, auto-blending and many other receiver parameters are controlled by manual or automatic reception processing.

Digital line output

The AES3 stereo output (XLR) is a 24-bit, 48kHz output that can be adjusted between -30dBFS and 0dBFS, corresponding to a carrier deviation of ±75kHz, with or without de-emphasis.

Analog Line Outputs

Active balanced outputs (XLR) are adjustable between -20dBu and +18dBu (+15.5dBm), corresponding to a carrier deviation of ±75kHz, with or without de-emphasis. The source impedance is 200 ohms.

Composite/MPX outputs

The unbalanced output (BNC) can be set between 1V p-p and 6V p-p, corresponding to a carrier deviation of ±75kHz. The source impedance is 75 ohms.

Composite audio processing

Up to 3dB of composite clipping can be applied to the composite/MPX output to better define the FM deviation limit. The 19kHz stereo driver and the 57kHz RDS subcarrier are stripped, filtered and reinserted after the clipper. This clipping function does not affect the outputs of the demodulated L/R program.

Network port

An RJ45 socket accepts TCP/IP network connections for configuration and remote operation of the AARON 640.

Headphone jack

(Front panel): A quarter-inch headphone jack (TRS) controls the off-air program signal. The headphone volume is a menu item.

USER INTERFACE

Front panel

A graphic display on the front panel and a scroll wheel allow easy, menu-driven on-site setting and operation of the AARON 640. The "VU" LED counters display the audio levels of the L/R program.

Software control

The IP network port allows full configuration and remote operation of the AARON 640 on a local network or on the Internet using any desktop, tablet or mobile browser.
